• According to the Alabama Department of Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention, over $174,000 has been awarded to 6 Tuscaloosa Agencies for their commitment to the prevention of child maltreatment. The check will be presented at the University of Alabama's Child Development Research Building this morning.

 

  • In state news, yesterday, hundreds attended a Statehouse summit on school safety, held at the House chamber, where participants agreed that taking steps to prevent tragedies like the Connecticut massacre will be a priority when the Alabama Legislature opens its regular session.

 

  • Vice President Joe Biden will meet with the NRA and other gun rights groups today, as the White House looks at ways to curb gun violence. Biden has vowed urgent action in the wake of last month's Newtown shooting.
