According to our daily, the Community Foundation of West Alabama is accepting nominations for the 2015 class of  Pillars of West Alabama, which honors those whose impact and influence have made a significant positive impression on the area.  Applications are available at www.thecfwa.org and must be turned in by Jan. 9.

Yesterday morning, Bibb County officials were searching for 16-year-old Kaylan Falls, who had been last seen on Friday. Falls was found safe yesterday, according to the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.

A 6-year-old was injured at the intersection of Greensboro Avenue and University Boulevard during the West Alabama Christmas Parade last night. The child is said to have run into the street and been hit by a TPD officer on a bicycle.

Jury selection is underway in the trial of 35-year-old Wendy Wood Holland of Bay Minette, who is accused of being part of a group of relatives and friends who used children for sex. She has pleaded not guilty.

A congressional deadline is rushing up to meet lawmakers who haven't yet finalized a $1.1 trillion, government-wide spending bill. Snags include a provision that could lead to pension cuts for more than 1 million retirees and a plan to relax new regulations on some risky financial products.

Today, the Senate Intelligence Committee is expected to release a 480-page executive summary of a 6,000-page report on the CIA's harsh interrogation techniques after the 9/11 terror attacks.  Officials who have read the report say it includes disturbing new details about the use of sleep deprivation, confinement in small spaces, humiliation, and waterboarding.

Today, Prince William and Kate will visit the National Sept. 11 Memorial and Museum. Sixty-seven British citizens were among those who died in the attack, the most of any foreign country.

A prosecutor is arguing for an appeal in the case against Oscar Pistorius, who was acquitted of murder for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp and convicted of culpable homicide. Prosector Gerrie Nel says the five-year sentence for Pistorius is "shockingly inappropriate."
