  • Amid a national gun control debate, yesterday, a 22-year-old man opened fire at Lone Star College, a Houston, Texas-area community college. The shooter and two others were wounded. According to officials, the shooting erupted from a fight and the third injured person was a college worker who just happened to be caught in the crossfire.

 

  • In state news, yesterday, Governor Bentley signed an executive order, making Homeland Security Director Spencer Collier the state’s senior law enforcement adviser, a move the governor hopes will improve coordination between various state law enforcement agencies.

 

  • In local news, tomorrow, the University of Alabama will hold a moment of silence at 11am, the same time the funeral for James Hood begins. Hood, one of the first black students at the university, died last week.

 

  • And in entertainment news, the media is abuzz with discussion over whether or not Beyonce lip-synched the national anthem during the President’s inauguration.
