Almost everyone who attended high school has said at one time or another, "Why do I need to know Algebra? You don't use that in the real world." Apparently, some companies are hoping we've all held to that ideology.

I was going to get some gas today. Upon my approach to the pump, I saw a sign that said 10 cents per gallon could be discounted for some customers. I pulled up to the pump and wondered how to save the 10 cents per gallon until I saw a sign stating that certain card holders would receive the dime off.

After that, other offers were made, and here's where it gets tricky.

The offer was also extended to those who'd purchase either three Pepsi Products or bags of chips. The catch was that the 10 cents off were only good for up to 15 gallons. At this particular store, Pepsi products were $1.79 and the chips were $1.49.

So, you want me to spend roughly $3.50-$5.40 to save $1.50? How much sense does that make? Thank God I paid attention in high school math classes.
