February 5, 1924, Roland Hayes became the first African-American to give a full-length solo recital at Carnegie Hall.
Hayes, who was born on June 3, 1887, was an American lyric tenor and composer. He is also considered the first African-American male concert artist to receive wide acclaim both at home and internationally.
Roland Hayes is said to have reached the height of his career between 1924 and 1932. At this time, he was reportedly making $100,000 a year!
