‘True Detective’ Season 2 Spoilers: Show Will Now Feature Three Lead Actors, Plus Setting Revealed

True Detective Season 2 Cast Leads California Pizzolatto
HBO

We weren’t altogether surprised to find the recent ‘True Detective‘ season 2 gossip with Jessica Chastain proved unfounded, and the most reliable new information seems to have come right from the source. Now that Louisiana, Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey are out of the picture, get the first real details on ‘True Detective’ season 2′s new setting and leads from series creator Nic Pizzolatto!

Speaking in lengthy interview with the “To the Best of My Knowledge” podcast, Pizzolatto opened up on some surprising details of the second season (which HBO technically never confirmed, despite overwhelming evidence of its intention), specifically that the action would shift to California this time around. Not only that but it seems the “#TrueDetectiveSeason2) meme may have been somewhat in vain, as the second season will have three as-yet-uncast leads, as opposed to the first season’s two:

Right now, we’re working with three leads. It takes place in California. Not Los Angeles, but some of the lesser known venues of California and we’re going to try to capture a certain psychosphere ambiance of the place, much like we did with season one. The characters are all new, but I am deeply in love with all of them. We have the entire season broken out, and I have a couple of scripts, and we’ll probably start casting within the coming month.

While we’ve had our own ideas about potential A-list talent ‘True Detective’ season 2 might look to, in addition to everything we already know about ‘True Detective’ season 2. Pizzolatto told press previously that he’d like to focus on “hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system,” though it remains unclear how seriously we should take those words.

Well, what do you think? Will ‘True Detective’ season 2 escape repetition by including a third lead? Is California an intriguing follow-up to Louisiana? Tell us what you want to see from ‘True Detective’ season 2 in the comments!
