Two of the year's top races in Tuscaloosa will be held on the same day in 2018 to create a special event that benefits local charities.

The Tuscaloosa Half Marathon and the Tuscaloosa Mayor's Cup 5K will take place on March 24 on a day billed as 'Run Tuscaloosa.' Government Plaza will be the central hub for all activity that day as both races will begin and end there. You can see the course map for the marathon here. It follows a similar path as recent years and winds its way around the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater, the Riverwalk, through the University of Alabama campus and then finishes in downtown Tuscaloosa.

Registration is currently underway for both events and the partnership hopes to raise money for four local charities. The 5k race aims to increase awareness and raise funds for the Tuscaloosa Pre-K Initiative. Last year more than 1,500 people registered. Since it began, the race has raised a total of $247,000 to support over 470 at-risk preschoolers in Tuscaloosa. The half marathon supports local groups The Kiwanis Club of Greater Tuscaloosa, ReadBAMARead and Arts ‘n Autism. and they received a combined $49,200 as a result of the 2017 race.
