The Tuscaloosa Police Department is adopting new non-lethal use of force options for police officers to use in the field.

Included in their newly-expanded weapons repertoire, law enforcement officials may choose to utilize impact munitions, OC spray and the controversial TASER gun. While safer, these options are not without risks and in some cases, officers must undergo a painful certification process in order to employ them.

Earlier this week, Tuscaloosa Police Officer Perry Madison received the necessary accreditation required to carry a TASER gun which included actually being tased bro.

After seeing the video below, I was naturally concerned and followed up with him several hours afterwards to make sure he felt okay. 'I'm okay, but my eyesight is still blurry,' he replied.

When asked to describe what being tased felt like, Perry said the experience was 'impossible' to put into words but once the probes were removed he noted the pain was instantly relieved.

The TASER gun neutralizes the individual 'through stimulation of his or her sensory nerves and motor nerves, resulting in strong involuntary muscle contractions,'

A 2009 Police Executive Research Forum study said that officer injuries drop by 76% when a Taser is used. However, Taser CEO Rick Smith claims police surveys show that the device has saved 75,000 lives. That's certainly what the Tuscaloosa Police Department is hoping for as well.
