Northport officials have confirmed who will be moving into the old K-Mart location at the intersection of McFarland Boulevard and Highway 69.

If I could wave a magic wand, what would move into the vacant Northport K-Mart building? Would you say a Walmart Neighborhood Market? I would be willing to bet that would not be the first thing on your mind, considering there is a Walmart Supercenter just up the road.

Not too long ago, we polled listeners on what they would like to see move in. We received a variety of responses such as, Chuck E. Cheese's, Dave & Busters, Kohl's, and Target. Some talked about entertainment options like a movie theater or bowling alley. Now, we know what will be moving in.

This follows the same thing happening in Tuscaloosa, with a Neighborhood Market store being built up the road from a Supercenter on Skyland Boulevard. Northport is next. The plan is to demolish the old store to build a fresh new one in its place.

Northport Mayor Bobby Herdon commented on the Walmart grocery store, as quoted by the Tuscaloosa News:

It’ll be a destination and it will generate more sales tax for the city of Northport
