Today is MLK day, and we've come a long way since the first official one in 1987. I remember the street 5 blocks from my parents house being renamed Martin Luther King Blvd. Each city that I've worked in home Miami, Orlando, Jacksonville Fl. Birmingham and St Louis all do a Marvelous Job of having different celebrations. I was wondering how the Unity day would go down today in Tuscaloosa.

The campaign for a federal holiday in King's honor began soon after his assassination in 1968. President Ronald Reagan signed the holiday into law in 1983, and it was first observed three years later. At first, some states resisted observing the holiday as such, giving it alternative names or combining it with other holidays. It was officially observed in all 50 states for the first time in 2000.

It's a special day for us all, lets all recognize it.
