A high school teacher was placed on administrative leave after instructing students to place "whites only" and "blacks only" signs near bathrooms and drinking fountains in the school.

According to The Elkhart Truth, the signs were part of a social studies assignment at Concord High School in Concord, Indiana . It was meant to demonstrate the feel of government-sanctioned segregation that previously existed in portions of our country. Sounds like a very hands-on approach to a lesson that is sometimes hard to simply imagine. The problem with the teacher's action, however, is that it wasn't approved by the school or school system.

What do you think about this? How would you have reacted if your child came home and told you this is what they'd done in social studies class today? Is the school system making a big deal out of a meaningful lesson, or did the teacher go too far?
