If you grew up when I did, you know there wasn't a lot of cartoons on the television, actually, there wasn't any cable!  A few cartoons you could count on seeing after school was The Flintstones, Tom and Jerry, Bugs Bunny and Popeye The Sailor!

So this weekend during the trip to Missouri, we also spent a night in went to Illinois.  When leaving, before getting back to Missouri, we drove through this town called Chester Illinois. As we drove through, we saw different murals with Popeye The Sailor and his crew all over town.

Finally, we stopped so I could take some pictures and also to find out why this town has Popeye the Sailor and all of the characters all over town!

To my surprise, I found out that the creator of Popeye the Sailor was from Chester, Illinois.  His name is Elzie Crisler Segar (December 8, 1894 – October 13, 1938).

The town paid homage to E.C. Segar by naming Chester, Illinois the hometown of Popeye the Sailor!

If you ever have to go Across the Mississippi River, going from Missouri to Illinois, you have to see this town!  In the mean time, here are some pictures!
