A local woman was struck and killed by a vehicle earlier this morning.

Tuscaloosa Police Captain Brad Mason says that the incident happened at 5:40am. The woman, 67, was crossing from the median in the 2600 block of McFarland Boulevard East.

Mason told reporters that the driver explained to the officers that he was heading west in the right-hand lane. The driver then told officers that he saw a truck in another lane swerve to avoid hitting something. Since his vision was obstructed by the truck, he was unable to avoid the woman as she crossed his lane.

Police do not expect to file charges against the driver, according to Mason.

The woman’s name was not released yet at press time pending notification of Family Members.
