Last night, local law enforcement held their annual National Night Out at Sokol Park.

There was something for everyone from bouncy houses to coloring books and replica fire hats for children and physical fitness tests, DNA/ID kits, ink pens, and pertinent information for adults.  In addition, the Northridge Baptist Church provided free hot dogs while cold water was given away at the Target tent.

Also, Cassius Lanier was a MAJOR hit with his free hugs. He went live on Facebook and drummed up more support for the event.

While all of the giveaways were nice, the lessons and reminders given were of the most value.  For instance, how many parents have plans for fire safety at home?  Do your children know how to test for hot knobs, how to keep smoke from entering a closed room until help arrives, and where to meet outside the home as a safe place? Do your children know your real name and phone number, address, and the legal names of other family members?

All of these are things we learned at some point in our lives, and it is important that we continue to stress this information to future generations as much as we emphasize the importance of knowing and following the law.
