Get ready for more construction delays in Downtown T-Town. ALDOT has issued an update on the Lurleen Wallace Boulevard Project as work continues in Tuscaloosa. Closures and lane shifts are coming, so be sure to add extra time to your commute. Read more from the ALDOT release below.

All eastbound access from Lurleen Wallace Boulevard southbound will be closed Saturday, June 15, at 4 a.m. until Monday, June 17, at 5 a.m. to allow the contractor to pave and shift traffic onto the two new inside lanes.

Once the inside lanes open Monday, the contractor will close westbound access from Lurleen Wallace Boulevard southbound at University Boulevard, Paul Bryant Drive, 11th Street and 12th Street until mid-August. Sixth Street will close Thursday, June 20 at 5 a.m. with Seventh Street and Eighth Street to follow in succession to allow utility crews to move into the area.

Please note that construction times may vary due to weather or other restrictions. The times listed below are tentative and subject to change.

Current closures include:

Southbound
None.
Northbound
University Boulevard will remain closed on the east side until late June.
8th Street will remain closed on the east side until late June.
25th Avenue will remain closed north of 14th Street until the end of the project.

Due to the difficulty of locating all older utilities under the roadway and worse than expected soil quality in several areas, the project is scheduled for completion in early 2020.
