Hope changes everything.
Think about how true that is.
No hope, no reason to go on in many ways.
Easter is this weekend, and that's why we asked Pastor Scott McCown from Central Church of Christ in Tuscaloosa to share a thought but not a sermon.
Yes, hope, what a beautiful word. Paul talks about that hope and what we're looking at today
Romans chapter 8, beginning at Verse 18 says,
For I consider the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is be that is to be revealed to us, for the anxious longing of creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God
For the creation was subjected to futility not willingly but because of him who subjected it in hope that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God
For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the Pains of childbirth together until now, but not only this, but we also ourselves have the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves eagerly waiting for our adoption as Sons
The Redemption of our body for in hope we are saved, but hope that is seen is not hope for who hopes what he already sees, but if we hope for what we do not see with perseverance, we eagerly wait for it.
Now, there could be some confusion here because Paul previously said we have received adoption as sons, now he says we await our adoption as sons, and so what Paul is talking about here is both a realized and an expected relationship with God.

We are children of God. John would tell us that, and Paul says we are adopted as Sons, so we are God's children now, but there is a sense and yet that's not fully revealed, that's not fully realized that's not fully who we are because we still struggle with the selfish nature of who we are as people.
When Christ comes, we will be returned home to the Father and receive full adoption as Sons to fully be in God's presence, that is our hope, that is our expectation.
I don't know what more we can hope for in our lifetime. Hope really is a beautiful word.
