Five-Star Safety Commits to Alabama

Alabama is the only school in the country with more than three five-star prospects committed, and now, they have just added another one.

According to reports, five-star safety Jireh Edwards has announced his commitment to the University of Alabama.

Edwards chose the Crimson Tide over the Auburn Tigers and the Georgia Bulldogs.

He's a 6-foot-2, 205-pound safety from Upper Marlboro, Maryland, and his commitment gives Alabama its fifth five-star prospect in the 2026 recruiting class, joining:

Wide receiver Cederian Morgan
Lienabcker Xavier Griffin
Cornerback Jorden Edmonds
Running back Ezavier Crowell

Edwards visited the Capstone twice during his recruitment, with Alabama getting the final official visit on June 6. Edwards did have official visits scheduled to Texas A&M and Oregon after his visit to Alabama, but cancelled them after leaving Tuscaloosa. Edwards had previously spoken highly of Alabama.

He's ranked as the No. 19 overall prospect in the 2026 class, the No. 2 safety, and the No. 3 player in the state of Maryland.

As a sophomore last year, Edwards was named a MaxPreps All-American, helping St. Frances Academy field one of the best defenses in the nation. He's credited last year with 92 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, six pass breakups, and three forced fumbles as a junior.

His commitment now gives Alabama the No. 3 overall recruiting class in the 2026 cycle, according to 247 Sports.
