Nate Oats “Hopeful” Derrion Reid Returns for SEC Tournament

Tuscaloosa, Ala. - Alabama men's basketball coach Nate Oats took to the radio airwaves on Monday night on 'Hey Coach', where he provided an update on Derrion Reid's status ahead of the SEC tournament. Alabama will have time to rest before it begins play in Nashville, securing a double-bye to move to the quarterfinal games on Friday. To win the SEC tournament, Alabama would need to win three games, likely against Kentucky, Florida, and Auburn.

On Monday night, Oats was asked about the status of five-star freshman forward Derrion Reid ahead of the SEC tournament. Reid has not played since Alabama's loss to Auburn on Feb. 15, and has missed a total of 13 games for the Crimson Tide - including the last six contests.

Oats sounded hopeful of Reid's status on Monday night.

"I thought he looked alright in a limited role," Oats said. "Hopefully we'll be able to get him back for some - even if the minutes are just limited because he's been out so long, just give us something to play a little bit deeper in three straight games."

Reid is averaging 7.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 0.8 assists per game for Alabama in 18 games so far this season. He is shooting 43.6 percent from the field and 25.7 percent from three-point range, adding another 56.6 percent from the free throw line.

Reid has started three games for Alabama this season. His top performance came against Creighton, scoring 12 points in 21 minutes of play.
