Shaun Alexander Weekly Awarded Handed to Hollywood
Before Alabama turns its page to Vanderbilt on Saturday, the Crimson Tide earned one more accolade from a 41-34 victory over the Georgia Bulldogs.
The freshman phenom Ryan Williams, who is 17 years old, earned another award for his game-winning performance against Georgia. Williams hauled in 6 catches for 177 yards and one touchdown, the eventual game-winner over Georgia, in the 41-34 win over the Bulldogs.
Williams earned one more accolade for his Georiga performance. The Shaun Alexander Award, awarded annually to the best freshman in college football every season, is also awarded weekly for the best freshman performance each week. Williams earned that award following Georgia.
Other Alabama players who have earned the weekly freshman award were Derrick Henry, Jaylen Waddle, DeVonta Smith Mark Ingram II, and Caleb Downs.
Shaun Alexander is a former running back at the University of Alabama and was a star for the University. He totaled 4,363 total yards and 49 touchdowns from scrimmage for the University of Alabama. Alexander finished 7th in the Heisman Trophy race in 1999 and was drafted No. 19 overall by the Seattle Seahawks in the 2000 NFL draft.
Ryan Williams was placed on the Shaun Alexander Award watchlist in the preseason. Caleb Downs won the award for Alabama last season, and current Alabama center Parker Brailsford was a finalist for the award last year.
