The Townsquare Media Weather Center has been closely monitoring the potential for severe weather across Alabama on Tuesday, May 20.

Primary Threats

There is increasing concern about tornadoes, damaging straight-line winds up to 70 mph, and hail up to the size of golf balls. Also, there is a low chance of localized flooding in poor drainage areas.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham said that the highest chance for tornadoes is in the risk levels of 2 and 3 out of 5.

Risk Areas

The Storm Prediction Center has Alabama under a range of risk levels, including thunderstorms, marginal risk, slight risk, and enhanced risk.

Most of West Alabama's risks are between enhanced and slight risks.

Timeline

As this system develops further and tracks toward Alabama, the timing could be adjusted. Currently, the overall timeframe is between 5 p.m. and 3 a.m. Wednesday.
