Black Legged Ticks, also known as Deer Ticks, are known to carry Lyme Disease. Now scientists are concerned with recent cases surfacing of a far deadlier illness.

POWV, Powassan Virus, has recently been linked to Deer Tick bites.

Mother Nature has a way of throwing us a curve ball.

Just when we thought we knew everything about Deer Tick bites. That, my friend, is no longer correct information.

One out of ten people who develop POWV doesn’t survive.

A woman presented with confusion, chest pains, nausea, fever, and chills. Two weeks after the onset of her symptoms she passed away.

As you can see these symptoms could easily be confused for other Illnesses.

They also state that if you contract the POWV virus and survive, you can have lifelong symptoms such as loss of muscle mass and headaches.

Scientists say that recent climate change, and global warming, have caused these POWV-infected ticks to migrate into new areas.

So how big is this new menace to our health? It's about the size of a sesame seed! I know it's not very big but can pack a deadly punch.

So now we not only have to look for the tell-tale sign of a tick bite that is a Lyme Disease carrier, but we also have to worry about the same tick carrying the POWV virus.

So how do you protect yourself from tick bites? Use insect repellant with DEET, treat your clothing with a spray that contains 5% permethrin, and of course, the old stand-by method, check yourself after spending time outdoors.
