The 2024-2025 Leadership Tuscaloosa class announces the groundbreaking ceremony for their class project, New Hoops 4 New Heights, which will take place on Tuesday, March 25 at 10 a.m. at the New Heights Community Resource Center (NHCRC). This event marks the official start of construction for a new basketball court and pavilion, an initiative aimed at fostering community engagement and providing a recreational space for local youth and families.

New Hoops 4 New Heights is a community-driven project focused on enhancing equitable access to recreation and strengthening neighborhood connections. In partnership with New Heights Foundation Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Leadership Tuscaloosa is leading the effort to fund and construct the facility. The NHCRC serves as a vital hub for Tuscaloosa residents, offering a range of essential services in education, mental health, homelessness prevention, youth services, and healthcare.

Leadership Tuscaloosa continues to seek financial contributions and in-kind donations to support this project. Items still needed include:

  • Concrete
