The Weather Channel said that “more than 100 million are sweating it out in temps above 90°.”

What Does This Mean for Alabama?

The concern is the rising heat index values, combined with hot temperatures and high humidity, which lead to heat illnesses.

The Heat Advisory runs through Wednesday, June 25, at 7 p.m.

Heat index values up to 108 °F expected.

A large swath of states is under a Heat Dome, including Alabama. Residents in Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Perry, Pickens, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, and Walker counties should pay attention to the ‘feels like’ temperature and take necessary precautions.

HEAT DOME EXPLAINED

Here is a non-science explanation of a heat dome.

  • Pot on the stove with a tight lid.
  • As the heat intensifies, the steam increases, and the contents inside the pot grow increasingly hotter and hotter.
  • So, imagine a massive lid covering over 20+ states
