Right now, the National Hurricane Center is tracking five different systems.

One of those areas that the Townsquare Media Weather Center is monitoring has the potential to become a tropical depression later this week or weekend. The National Hurricane Center has given this area a 40 percent chance of development.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham said they're “keeping an eye on potential tropical development in the Gulf of Mexico over the next couple of days, but for now, any development is expected to remain south of the northern Gulf Coast.”

“Global models continue to show a weak system over the Gulf in the 5-8 day time frame with slow and erratic movement,” James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist. “The tropical low will drift toward the Florida Peninsula (not the panhandle) and will most likely be just a rainmaker. But, of course, this could change, and we will keep a close eye on the situation.”

Advice from The Weather Channel: The “U.S. Gulf Coast should monitor this situation; it's too early to determine if it will bring significant impacts, assuming there's development at all.”

We will continue to monitor it since the forecast remains quite uncertain.
