Stillman College School of Education Earns CAEP Accreditation
Stillman College’s School of Education has earned full accreditation from the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), recognizing its teacher preparation programs for meeting the highest national standards. The accreditation, valid from Fall 2024 to Fall 2030, applies to initial-licensure level programs leading to teaching certification at the baccalaureate level.
This achievement is the result of years of effort, beginning in 2006 and culminating under the leadership of Dr. Sharon J. Porterfield, who became Dean of the School of Education in 2022. Dr. Porterfield emphasized, “Achieving CAEP Accreditation ensures that Stillman College graduates are trained according to the highest standards for the Initial-Licensure Level. Our students will be welcomed in any school, whether public, private, or charter, due to their national training.”

Stillman College was one of 30 institutions across 18 states to receive CAEP accreditation in Fall 2024. The School of Education includes three departments: Education, Fine Arts, and Kinesiology, offering programs in areas such as elementary education, special education, and various arts and physical education programs. These programs represent 23% of the college’s student body.
The accreditation adds to Stillman College’s longstanding recognition, as it has been accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) since 1953. Additionally, Stillman’s School of Education has held accreditation from the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) since 2016.
With this new CAEP accreditation, Stillman College continues to strengthen its commitment to producing highly qualified educators ready to make a positive impact in schools nationwide.
