Tuscaloosa City Schools, along with Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa, Legal Services of Alabama and Child Abuse Prevention Services, will highlight and recognize Rising Star Character Students of the Month from each school in the district during the 2022-2023 school year. Each month, two to three outstanding TCS students will be highlighted in this series.

Brandon Austin, an eighth-grader at the Alberta School of Performing Arts, is the first January recipient of the Rising Star Character Student of the Month!

Austin said being selected as the character student of the month makes him feel accomplished.

"It feels good to know that I'm being a role model in school for younger children that I can inspire," Austin said.

Austin said he demonstrates good character by making good grades, completing his academic assignments and exceeding in his electives. He said he also takes steps in making sure he is always displaying positive traits around other students.

"When I'm around [students], I stay on my best behavior," Austin said. "I don't goof off and I show them how to be good."
