Bean-Brown Theatre to Reopen With Performances of “Anastasia” This Month
After two years of renovations, the Bean-Brown Theatre at Tuscaloosa's Shelton State Community College will celebrate its grand re-opening this month as its home troupe performs "Anastasia" ahead of their new five-show season.
The venue hosts Theatre Tuscaloosa, a nonprofit organization that has been performing for local audiences for over 50 years.
On Friday, July 18th, the group will celebrate the Grand Reopening of the theatre with Opening Night for Anastasia, a black-tie event to welcome patrons back to the space.
Additional performances will follow until the last show on Sunday, July 27th.

"Anastasia" is a Broadway musical based on the 1997 animated movie that blends history and magic to tell the tale of the end of the 300-year Romanov dynasty in Imperial Russia.
The performance will be the final curtain call for longtime Theatre Tuscaloosa leader Tina Turley, who will retire after directing and producing Anastasia.
“I’m excited to bring this fresh new work to Tuscaloosa audiences. It is beautiful and epic,” Turley said. “It has been joyful working with the designers, production staff, and a cast with a mixture of familiar faces as well as new ones; it's a perfect send-off into my retirement!”
“I’m so thrilled we are back in the Bean-Brown Theatre!” Managing Director Adam Miller said, “Being able to perform on this stage again, especially in a show as magical as ‘Anastasia,’ is a dream come true for all of us. We can't wait to share this beautiful production with our community and usher in a new era for our theatre.”
An all-star cast and crew await, and tickets are on sale now, with different price tiers for adults, students, seniors, service members, and more.
In addition to the more-expensive and swanky grand opening black-tie affair on July 18th, standard performances will be presented in the Bean-Brown Theatre on Saturday, July 19 at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday and Wednesday, July 20 and 23, at 2:00 p.m.; Thursday and Friday, July 24 - 25, at 7:30 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, July 26 - 27, at 2:00 p.m.
Theatre Tuscaloosa will also host a pay-what-you-can/understudy performance on Wednesday, July 23, at 7:30 p.m.
