A woman has been charged with manslaughter, felony assault and DUI after she reportedly caused a deadly head-on collision in Northport early Friday morning.

Captain Jack Kennedy, the commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said Northport police officers responded to a crash on the Hugh Thomas Bridge before dawn Friday morning and found a two-vehicle accident that killed a juvenile and left two other victims in critical condition.

Kennedy said the driver of one vehicle had been driving the wrong way on the bridge and caused the wreck. The driver - 29-year-old Rachael Robinson - was not harmed, but police suspected she was under the influence of alcohol.

There were three people in the other vehicle. One was pronounced dead on the scene, and two others were transported to DCH Regional Medical Center with critical injuries.

The person killed was under the age of 18, and Kennedy said the VCU would not release their identity or any other details about the victim publicly.

Because responding officers suspected this was a DUI crash, they asked the VCU to investigate if criminal charges were necessary.

"Investigators processed the scene, executed search warrants, and obtained digital, physical, and forensic evidence," Kennedy said. "In consultation with the District Attorney’s Office, the suspect was charged with Manslaughter, 2 counts of Assault 1st, and Driving Under the Influence.  She was committed to jail without bond."
