Alabama basketball player Darius Miles provided the handgun used to fatally shoot a woman on the Tuscaloosa Strip Sunday morning but did not fire the bullet that killed her, according to court documents filed Tuesday.

In new depositions, investigators said the other man arrested and charged with capital murder, Michael Davis, fired the shot that killed 23-year-old Jamea Jonae Harris early Sunday morning.

Miles and Davis, a 20-year-old from Charles County, Maryland who is affiliated with Miles but not the University of Alabama or its basketball team, were arrested and both charged with capital murder hours after the killing Sunday morning.

The court documents provide little new context for the killing and do not go further into the motive for the shocking homicide -- the fifth so far in Tuscaloosa County so far this year.

Depositions were filed in the cases against both men and are nearly identical.

"On January 15th, 2023, Michael Davis committed the crime of Capital Murder by shooting Jamea Harris. Jamea was in the passenger seat of a vehicle stopped in the 500 block of Grace Street in Tuscaloosa. She was struck once by gunfire and died shortly afterwards. Witnesses identify Michael as the shooter. There is surveillance footage of the incident."

The deposition filed in Miles' case is similar but specifies that he did not fire the gun used in the killing.

"On January 15th, 2023, Darius Miles aided and abetted Michael Davis in the crime of Capital Murder of Jamea Harris. Michael Davis shot and killed Jamea Harris while she was in the passenger seat of a vehicle stopped in the 500 block of Grace Street in Tuscaloosa. She was struck once by gunfire and died shortly afterwards. Darius Miles admitted to providing Michael Davis with the handgun immediately prior to the shooting."

Miles maintained his innocence in a statement released by his attorneys Monday.

Both men remain in the Tuscaloosa County Jail Tuesday afternoon without bond.
