No shots were fired and no one was hurt Tuesday morning when an elderly patient reportedly brought a gun to DCH Regional Medical Center early Tuesday morning.

Stephanie Taylor, a spokesperson for the Tuscaloosa Police Department, said officers were called to the hospital a few minutes after 5 a.m. Tuesday on reports that an 81-year-old patient was armed with a handgun.

Firearms are not allowed inside the hospital, and officers responded to the area to find a compliant patient who reportedly handed over the weapon almost immediately.

Hospital staff told police the patient showed the handgun to two nurses and a security guard but there was not a threat to the public, no shots were fired and no one was injured.

No charges have been filed, no arrests were made and the gun was taken to TPD's headquarters to be kept out of DCH, where the elderly man remained for treatment.
