Police said the victim was driving southbound on Greensboro Avenue in Tuscaloosa when someone opened fire on his vehicle.

At least one bullet struck the car and hit the victim in his left leg - he drove himself to the hospital, where he was treated for wounds that do not appear to be life-threatening.

The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit investigated and developed 29-year-old Marquez Jemone Hughes as a suspect, and he was arrested later Thursday.

Hughes was charged with first-degree assault and shooting into an occupied vehicle, both felonies, and jailed on a combined $60,000 bond.

The 29-year-old Duncanville man, reportedly also known as "Fat Fool," was arrested in 2021 and charged with attempted murder for a shooting at a tattoo parlor off Skyland Boulevard three months earlier.

His bond has been temporarily revoked on those charges.
