The 140th running of the Kentucky Derby aka Run for the Roses was held this past Saturday at Churchill Downs.

It’s called the Run for the Roses because the winner is draped in a blanket of 554 red roses.

The first Kentucky Derby was in 1875 the very first year Churchill Downs opened.  Thirteen of the 15 riders were African- American.

Fifteen of the 28 Derby’s were won by African-American jockeys. I wonder how much they made.
