It’s safe to say that Dr. Dre is having the best two weeks of his life. Following news that Apple is reportedly buying Beats Electronics for $3.2 billion, the mayor of Compton, Calif., the rap mogul’s native hometown, wants to honor the veteran hip-hop producer.

According to TMZ, Compton mayor Aja Brown has been in talks with Dr. Dre’s people to present him with the key to the city in honor of his entrepreneurial spirit. Brown is also hoping to get the hitmaker involved in developing a music program in Compton.

It shouldn’t be difficult to persuade Dre to help out with an arts program for the community. Last year, he and Jimmy Iovine donated $70 million to develop a music and business curriculum at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.

If Dr. Dre receives the honorary award, he follows behind fellow Compton native and producer DJ Quik, who received a key to the city for donating $250,000 to local schools.

"They didn’t give me that for my music. That music was violent," Quik told HipHopDX. "They gave me that because of how I was going back into them schools and raising money for them schools."
