It’s the time of the year where generosity pours from various directions. The holiday spirit leads those with abundance and even those who are barely getting by to offer what they have to share with others who may be in need.

In addition to toy drives and giveaways, there are usually drives for winter gear and non-perishable food items.

Just as is the case with everything else, the COVID-19 pandemic has decreased involvement in many areas as those who would normally give have either found themselves in need of assistance or taking on numerous tasks just to generate enough for their own families to get by. However, those who still can, still do.

Heavy Hearts YMP, T-Town Slingz, and KBL Kreations have partnered to host a mobile food pantry at Bethel Baptist Church on Monday, December 21. Those in need of food assistance are required to register by calling (334) 296-0926 or 205-225-9475.

It goes without saying that nutritious meals are always important in maintaining one’s health, but that significance has grown amid the COVID-19 pandemic, as a healthy immune system is one of the best tools to prevent contraction of the virus as well as to fight the virus should one pick it up.

In addition, hot meals are even more crucial in maintaining body temperature during colder months. It is said that hot meals stimulate blood circulation and aid in digestion, which is important for breaking down food into nutrients, which the body uses for energy, growth, and cell repair. Source.

So, those who can benefit from food assistance should go ahead and mark their calendars, set their alarms, etc. to be sure not to miss this mobile food pantry.
