Last night at the Academy Awards it was all about Moonlight's big win for Best Picture.

That is, of course, after Warren Beatty was somehow handed the wrong envelope and ended up awarding Best Picture to La La Land and the entire cast came on stage with their thank-yous before realizing that, oops, Moonlight was actually the winner.

It was the biggest gaffe in Oscar history but with it came a huge sigh of relief because Moonlight, a gorgeously shot, incredibly acted study on blackness, masculinity and the way our immediate environment impacts and shapes our perspectives and lives should've won Best Picture, especially over  La La.

Accountants Price Waterhouse Cooper, who oversee the ballots, said the presenters had mistakenly been given the wrong category envelope.

"We are currently investigating how this could have happened, and deeply regret that this occurred,"  PwC said in a statement after apologizing to Moonlight, La La and Beaty.

Huge mess-up aside, Moonlight had a great night, taking home Oscars for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor for first-time nominee Mahershala Ali and Best Adapted Screenplay. It also should've taken home the statue for Best Cinematography but lost out to La La.
