Singer and producer, Kashif Saleem, known as simply Kashif, has passed away. He was 56.

EUR Web reports that sources said the singer lived alone and was found by a neighbor on Monday afternoon (Sept. 26) inside of his Los Angeles home. The L.A. County Coroner's office said he'd been dead since Sunday and died of natural causes, though no specific cause of death has been determined as of yet.

"It is with great sadness we the Family are confirming the passing of music legend Kashif in Los Angeles, CA. We will keep you updated," Kashif's family wrote on Twitter earlier today.

The talented musician was a multi-instrumentalist had been active on the music scene for years. In 1974, he joined the band B.T. Express as a keyboardist and vocalist. After leaving the group, in 1983, he signed to Arista as a solo artist, recording hits including "I Just Got To Have You, Lover Turn Me On," "Stone Love," "Help Yourself to My Love," and the Grammy-nominated instrumental "The Mood." He  later branched out, producing the 1981 song from Evelyn "Champagne" King "I'm in Love."

In the 80s, Kashif was featured on records with everyone from Kenny G to Dionne Warwick, including the popular "Love Changes," which he recorded with Meli'sa Morgan. In 1984, his second album, Send Me Your Love, resulted in two Grammy nominations for "Edgartown Groove" featuring Al Jarreau, and the instrumental "Call Me Tonight." The record also featured the hits "Baby Don't Break Your Baby's Heart" and "Are You the Woman."

Beyond the music, Kashif was also active in the community. In 1996, he wrote the educational book, Everything You'd Better Know About The Record Industry, which offered an intimate glimpse into the business. In 2006, he created and founded Team iCare Foundation and produced the very first Walk/Run for Foster Care at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California. The recipient of numerous prestigious awards for his activism, in 2006, Kashif founded Kashif University, which was located on the campus of Morningside High School in Inglewood California. Additionally, he produced and directed a ten-part documentary series, The History of R&B Music and Its Influence on World Culture.

Upon hearing news of his untimely passing, several of Kahif's celebrity friends and fans expressed their sorrow, including Melba Moore, singer/guitarist Anthony David, and Chuck D.
