It goes without saying that when it comes to driving, cycling, and even walking, we all know to watch for signage to make our travels safer.  But what happens when the writing is on the ground?

WTUG has been doing various drives at the Kmart on Skyland for a number of years.  Each time we're there, I observe around 20% of vehicles drive straight through the pedestrian crosswalk without stopping.  Apparently, they think because they see no one, it's okay to zoom through.  However, "STOP" is plainly written on the ground just before the crossing zone.

Every time I see a car go through without stopping, I automatically wonder if they ever run over anything such as fallen branches, broken glass, etc. on regular roadways simply because they don't pay attention to the street and pray that no one's child runs out of the store and into the street at the exact moment a car chooses to speed through. THAT would be a shame.
