With the death toll now reaching 13 in the Gatlingburg / Smokey Mountain fires this week. The fire being started by and individual and not a natural cause. Open burning of anything is still strictly prohibited in the state of Alabama right now.

A statewide ban on open burning remains in effect despite recent rainfall in Alabama, according to a new release from the Alabama Forestry Commission. So no burning leaves or waste product, that's the easiest way for things to quickly get out of control quickly

So far this year, 3,644 wildfires have consumed almost 50,000 acres of land in Alabama, with 2,219 of those fires and 29,406 acres since Oct. 1.

“This past Monday 108 active wildfires burned over 3,000 acres across the state, setting a record for one day," Cole said. "This situation was extremely alarming not only because of the unusually high number of fires but also because of their large size. It was a nightmarish day and night, stretching the men and women who make up our wildfire suppression resources beyond capacity.”
