Alabama state troopers are participating in the nationwide "Click It or Ticket" campaign to increase the use of safety belts. In addition, many of the state's city and county law enforcement agencies are also participating.

Federal forecasters are predicting another busy hurricane season.  The outlook announced yesterday calls for 13 to 20 named storms, 7 to 11 that strengthen into hurricanes and 3 to 6 that become major hurricanes.

According to the Tuscaloosa News, Gary Landon Hill of Northport, will soon receive the Silver Star, the third-highest medal awarded for valor in the military.  Hill served in the Marine Corps from 1966 to 1969 and fought in the Vietnam War.

The investigation into the mysterious respiratory infection that was believed to be responsible for two deaths and eight hospitalizations in southeast Alabama is said to be closed, as researchers have found only cold and flu viruses.

Officials in Washington state say three people have been taken to the hospital after a bridge north of Seattle collapsed yesterday, dumping their vehicles into the water. No one is believed to have been killed, but a dive team is continuing to search the waters.
