University of Alabama student 19-year-old Daniel Evan Simmons was arrested by university police after an investigation into alarming messages that were sent the morning of Sept. 23. These messages are said to not be directly connected to the original campus threat last week. Simmons has been suspended and placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $5,000 bond.

Yesterday the names of seven outstanding citizens were added to the Tuscaloosa County Civic Hall of Fame in Government Plaza: Randy Skagen, Davis Burton Jr., Carolyn Fritz, Charles Durham, Charles Sittason, John Robinson, and Lee Hallman.

The Druid City Gardner Project will hold hands-on gardening workshops this fall, beginning October 11, to help residents create food in their own backyards. Former U.S. soldier Omar Gonzalez, who is accused of jumping a fence and entering the White House, was indicted on federal and local charges yesterday and will appear in federal court today.

As Omar Gonzalez prepares for court today, reports are surfacing that on Sept. 16, an armed security guard who is also an ex-con rode on an elevator with President Obama during a visit to the CDC in Atlanta. It is said the gun was discovered only when the man was questioned after he persisted in taking video of the President on the elevator.

A man with the Ebola virus is in critical condition at a Dallas, Texas hospital. He is said to have flown from Liberia to Dallas on Sept. 19 and started feeling ill a few days later

Walmart has responded to a lawsuit filed by Tracy Morgan and the other individuals involved in the accident by denying allegations of recklessness and negligence and says the actor and his entourage are to blame because they were not wearing their seat belts.

Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps was arrested for DUI yesterday. This was his second time being arrested for driving under the influence.

Joran van der Sloot, the chief suspect in the 2005 disappearance of Natalee Holloway, is serving a 28-year sentence for killing a Peruvian student in 2010, which hasn't stopped him from becoming a father. His daughter was born Sunday.

The Federal Communications Commission has voted to end the decades-old rule preventing cable and satellite operators from airing sports events that were blacked out on local TV, but the NFL would still be able to privately negotiate its own rules without backing of the federal government.
