23-year-old Amanda Sheree Jones and 29-year-old Richard Cheyenne Simmons have been charged with capital murder in the death of 52-year-old Micah Morton, with whom they'd lived for several weeks. Morton was found dead in his McCalla home Saturday, and the investigation is ongoing.

Swanson is said to have had sexual contact with a male student in a classroom during school hours. He was placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail pending a $1,000 bond.

In state news, the race for state auditor pits Republican Jim Zeigler against Democrat Miranda Joseph. Joseph says her accounting degree and her work as an internal auditor for a Birmingham bank make her the most qualified candidate.

Ole Miss and Mississippi State are tied for third in The Associated Press college football poll after a wild week of unexpected results brought major changes to the Top 25. Florida State is still top-ranked, with 35 first-place votes and Auburn move up to No. 2 while Alabama has dropped four spots to No. 7 after Saturday's 23-17 loss to Ole Miss.
