  • Last night, the winning of almost every swing state helped President Obama to gain enough electoral votes to win his re-election. In his victory speech, the president made it clear that he had an agenda in mind but called for reconciliation after a divisive election. Meanwhile, Mitt Romney conceded to his supporters in Boston that “the nation chose another leader,” saying that, “the election is over, but their priniciples endure.”

 

  • According to state election officials, Congresswoman Terri Sewell won re-election against Don Chamberlain, Robert Aderholt defeated Daniel Boman, and Roy Moore was chosen as Supreme Court Chief Justice over opponent Bob Vance.

 

  • Amendment 4, which was described by proponents as removing racist language from our constitution,┬ádid not pass. However, Tuscaloosa’s local amendment did pass.

 

  • Tuscaloosa County Probate Judge Hardy McCollum won re-election against opponent Sheriff Ted Sexton.

 

  • Citing a tax that would enable them to balance their budgets, residents in Colorado and Washington voted to legalize recreational use of marijuana.
