It just doesn't seem to be a good time for miners right now.  On the local level, those working to make a living for their families constantly face the threat of layoffs because of market conditions, but more than that, there's always a matter of safety.

According to Fox 6, 17 salt miners were stuck in an elevator in upstate New York's Cayuga Salt Mine since late Wednesday night. They were rescued with a crane this morning. They appear to be in good health and have been provided with heat packs and blankets to keep them warm.
