Troy Ave has reportedly pleaded not guilty to attempted murder charges during his arraignment in a New York courtroom on Monday (May 30).

The attempted murder charges stem from a deadly shootout that took place on May 25 at the Irving Plaza venue where T.I. was about to perform. One person was killed and three others were injured including Troy Ave who suffered a bullet wound to his leg.

According to Pix11 News, the 33-year-old rapper claims that he was the victim and that police should be searching for another shooter. Ave also claims that his bodyguard, Ronald McPhatter, the man who was killed during the melee, tried to protect him and was subsequently shot in the stomach.

However, prosecutors are painting a different story. They say that Troy Ave, whose real name is Roland Collins, was recklessly shooting inside the club in the direction of fleeing clubgoers and it was caught on video.

Authorities says that after ballistics tests come in, charges could be upgraded to include murder.

Troy Ave's attorney, Scott Leemon told AllHipHop.com that his client is actually the victim.

“[Troy Ave] didn’t shoot himself, he didn’t shoot his lifelong friend and bodyguard, Ronald McPhatter,” he said. “Ronald died a hero and should be remembered that way. The snippet of the video released by NYPD doesn’t tell the whole story.”

Troy Ave, who is still nursing a gunshot wound to his leg, is still in police custody and being held without bail.
