Watch Common & Robert Glasper’s Supergroup, August Greene, Perform With Brandy on ‘Tiny Desk’
The musicians, who visited Tiny Desk before, albeit under different circumstances (performing at the White House when Barack Obama was still in office), was accompanied by veteran singer, Brandy.
Dedicating the entire presentation to women, and expressing their desire to push them into the foreground, the group delivered soul-tinged renditions of their tracks, “Black Kennedy” and “Optimistic,” as well as two yet-to-be-released songs, “Practice” and “Let Go.”
Maimouna Youssef made a special guest appearance on "Practice," while Brandy showed up for "Optimistic" and Andra Day was on hand for "Stand Up for Something," her track with Common that's featured in the film, Marshall.
At the beginning of the set, Common made sure to acknowledge that “equality has never been the case in this country and in the world.” He also paid tribute to Glapser's cousin, Loren, who passed away a few days ago.
"What a moment with some of the greatest musicians of our time," Brandy posted on Instagram about the performance.
