Master P held a rally in support of his young brother Corey “C-Murder” Miller at the steps of Xavier University campus in New Orleans on Thursday (July 5).

As we have previously reported, two eyewitnesses, Kenneth Jordan and Darnell Jordan (no relation), have recanted their testimony linking the rapper to the 2002 murder of 16-year-old Steven James. Miller is currently serving a life sentence at the Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola.

At the rally, Master P, who was wearing a "Free Corey Miller" T-shirt, said that his brother is in “good spirits” and called for prosecutors to release his brother from prison.

“It’s time for him to come home, an innocent man," P told the crowd (via NOLA.com). “They have no more witnesses. Both witnesses already came and recanted their statements.”

Paul Barker, Corey Miller's attorney, said his client is "cautiously optimistic" but is continuing to do "his good work in prison" and is in good spirits.

"Justice needs to be served for the family of that victim, but an innocent man in jail for something he didn't do is no justice," he told supporters.

However, criminal defense experts told NOLA.com that recantations alone aren't enough to set Miller free.

"It's not automatic," said Jee Park, executive director of the Innocence Project of New Orleans. "The only way you can get a new trial is if you have a legal claim, a constitutional reason why your original conviction is unsound."

Barker has filed motions asking the court to vacate Corey Miller's conviction and order a new trial. Only time will tell if this will move a judge to free the embattled rapper who has been in prison for 15 years, so far.
