The Alabama Department of Education has released a list of the failing schools in the state.  The bad news is one Tuscaloosa-area school made the list.  The good news is ONLY ONE Tuscaloosa-area school made the list. So, progress has been made!

Of the state's "Big 5" cities, Tuscaloosa is the only with only one school on the list. Birmingham City Schools has a total of 18, Huntsville City Schools has 2, Mobile County has 12, and Montgomery County has 12 as well. The only school listed for Tuscaloosa is Central High School.  When it is stated that the 76 schools listed is an increase from 66 last year, the number went down in the Tuscaloosa area as Davis-Emerson Middle School was removed this year.

So, our school systems are making improvements. Hopefully, that number will be down to zero next year!
