The Heats? War Eagles?

During the NBA Finals, my FB timeline was innundated with people expressing how upsetting it is to them when others refer to players for the Miami Heat as "The Heats."  I found that to be quite funny, seeming as how such small details can cause one to feel some kinda way.  It also made me think of another sports-themed inaccuracy that makes me a bit uneasy:

I hate it when people refer to Auburn University's football team as "The War Eagles." The team's mascot is a tiger. By the same token, an elephant has come to mean all things Alabama.  Yet, the team is The Crimson Tide.  Surely, both of these examples have stories behind them, which aren't always widely known; but do you know of any sports teams whose name, mascot, or even chants don't seem to be even remotely related?
