'Be Ready Day' is a free, family-friendly event meant to increase public awareness of the importance of preparation when it comes to disasters and severe weather events.

Tuscaloosa’s annual 'Be Ready Day' will be held at the County Sheriff’s Office Hangar, at the Tuscaloosa Regional Airport, on Tuesday, September 15 from 5-7 pm.

Attendees will have a chance to meet members of groups from around the county, including fire departments, law enforcement, and emergency management and response teams. There will be emergency equipment, winter weather assets, and aircraft on display. A rappelling demonstration is also scheduled.

The event is about disaster preparedness and response. Citizens will learn about what they can do to prepare for a severe weather event, such as making a disaster kit and a plan. There will also be displays with information on all kinds of weather events, from tornadoes and flooding to winter weather. Pizza, hot dogs, and cold drinks will be provided.

Tuscaloosa County EMA Director Rob Robertson said,

Tuscaloosa County knows well the dangers involved in disasters and that everyone has a part in being prepared. This is great chance to better learn how to ‘Be Ready’ and get to know your community responders.

The event is held in conjunction with FEMA National Preparedness Month. The month is dedicated to educating the public about the importance of preparation as well as informing them about how to be prepared for an emergency.
