185 Parking Tickets Paid with School Supplies, Program to Return for Christmas Toys
The city of Tuscaloosa launched a new program last month to allow people to pay their municipal parking tickets by donating school supplies to the city's school system, and Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox said Thursday that 185 people took advantage of the offer and donated more than $2,000 of supplies.
In his "Mayor's Minute" video, Maddox thanked everyone who took part in the new program and announced that it will return later this year. Maddox said in November and December, the city will allow people to pay off parking tickets by donating items to West Alabama's Toys for Tots, a program that aims to provide Christmas gifts to children in need.
